Find Help for Your Dental Emergency
At Smile Chicago, there are few dental emergencies we have yet to see come through our doors. Dr. Seidman has 30 years of experience restoring patients’ smiles harmed by damage or disease. As a result, we’re fully prepared to handle your urgent dental needs. When you come for an emergency appointment, we’ll begin with digital X-rays to understand what’s happening in your smile. Then depending on the best path to restore your oral health, your dentist may recommend:
- Tooth Fillings – Composite fillings can repair teeth damaged by decay or injury. They blend in with your mouth and require less tooth structure to be removed than for metal fillings.
- Dental Crowns – A crown will cover your tooth to repair it from severe damage or a large cavity. We use the highest quality materials for your restoration, so it should last for years.
- Gum Disease Treatment – A serious gum infection can often lead to a painful toothache. We offer many methods to eliminate the disease and get your gums healthy again.
- Dental Bridge – If a tooth fell out or was knocked out, and we can’t put it back in place, we can replace it with a dental bridge.
Because we know emergencies can be stressful, we focus on putting you at ease. Our private patient care rooms will give you a sense of peace. You can also relax with a blanket or pillow.
Remember, one of the best ways to avoid an urgent care situation is by staying on top of your dental health. We encourage you to schedule regular checkups, so we can monitor your oral health and keep your smile intact.

How to Handle Your Dental Emergency at Home
At Smile Chicago, we try to see patients on the same day whenever possible during a dental emergency. However, there are actionable steps you can take at home to prevent further damage to your smile. Here are a few common dental emergencies and what to do right away:
- Toothache – If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Try flossing gently to remove any food particles stuck inside your gumline. Pressing a cold compress on your face can alleviate any swelling.
- Chipped or Broken Teeth – Get any pieces you see of your tooth. Put those in a container of milk or saliva. If you have any bleeding, press gauze to the area. Pain relievers or an ice pack can help relieve the pain.
- Knocked Out Tooth – Similar to chipping or breaking a tooth, put your tooth in a container of milk or saliva. If possible, gently place it back into position in your mouth. It’s important to visit us ASAP – ideally within 30 minutes – so we can restore the tooth in place.
- Losing a Filling – If a filling has come loose, use dental cement or even sugarless gum as a temporary replacement. Then visit our office so we can replace the filling.
- Losing a Dental Crown – If your dental crown has come loose or gets knocked out, immediately make an appointment. If you can’t get to us right away, put the crown over your tooth. You may use dental cement to keep it in place.
With these tips in mind, we’re confident you will handle your urgent dental need with as little stress as possible. Feel free to ask for more personalized tips during your next appointment.
